The Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) Specialty teaches divers how to safely plan and conduct dives using nitrox (oxygen-enriched air), which allows for longer bottom times and reduced nitrogen absorption compared to regular air. The course covers topics such as oxygen exposure limits, partial pressures, dive planning with nitrox, analyzing tank mixes, and using dive computers for nitrox dives.
Divers learn how to calculate maximum operating depths, manage oxygen toxicity risks, and plan dives to maximize safety and efficiency. Emphasis is placed on proper tank labeling, gas analysis, and dive table or computer use specific to enriched air.
Upon completion, divers are qualified to safely use nitrox mixes on recreational dives, extending their dive time while maintaining strict attention to oxygen exposure limits.
